5 Tips To Look Natural In Your Wedding Photos

5 tips to look natural In your wedding photos

Looking natural in your wedding photos can make the difference between wedding photos you enjoy and wedding photos that don’t look right. As Knoxville wedding photographers, we have found that many couples want to be guided when it comes to posing and stylizing on the wedding day, they want photos that “don’t look posed” while actually posing. Although a candid approach to wedding photography can create beautiful photos, we have found that guiding the couple when possible, creates the best images.

Did you know that there are some things you can do during the wedding day that will make you look even more fabulous, and without your photographers help? Here are some tips you can apply to yourself all on your own!

Posture

Posture is the number 1 tip to look natural in your wedding photos for a reason, no one wants to look slouchy or hunchbacked don their wedding day. The best way to have proper posture is to keep in mind what your parents told you when you were young, keep a straight back. Images there is a string being pulled from your head towards the top. Another way to keep it simple is ears above the shoulders, shoulders above the hips, hips above the toes.

Head

When you are being photographed, try not to face directly into the camera with your head, instead, slightly tilt your head to the left or to the right. If your wedding photographer notices that you are making a face, they may crack a few jokes to allow for natural reactions and emotions. Throughout the wedding day, try not to look too far down or too far up, instead, keep your head level with the horizon.

Chin

If you want to look natural in your wedding photos, the positioning of your chin can either make or break a photo, a chin that is too far down can cause a double chin, and a chin too far up can cause unflattering angles if your nostrils. Think of your head and chin like that of a turtle, elongating your neck and chin will remove any chance of double chin and smooth potential wrinkles. This may feel awkward at first, but it will look great in your wedding photos.

Stomach

Although weight cannot be “physically” lost during the wedding day, it can certainly be “visually” lost if you are working with a professional wedding photographer. Simply adjusting the angle of your body in relation to the photographer’s camera will make a world of difference.

First, position your shoulders at a 45-degree angle from the photographer’s camera, next, put your weight on your back leg and slightly lean towards the camera. Following these steps will help slim the profile of your body and allow you to look more flattering in wedding photos, and selfies too!

Hands

The positioning of your hands can definitely enhance your wedding photos. When placing your hands on a flat surface, make an imaginary golf ball sit underneath your wrist, this allows for a very elegant and feminine hand position.

Throughout the wedding day, try to avoid making a “claw” with your hand or creating a fist. You want your hands to be as relaxed and natural as possible, a simple way to do this is to give them something to do, such as playing with your veil, brushing your fingers up and down your gown, and holding on to your partner.
